Endurance Swims and Information Session

  • Albany Creek Leisure Centre Explorer Drive Albany Creek, QLD, 4035 Australia (map)

Announcing some exciting developments for our club involvement in the Vorgee Endurance 1000 program.

A pool deck information session will be held at 7:15am (prior to training) on Sunday 11th of February.

·       The major focus of the program is the cardiovascular (aerobic) conditioning, health and mental health benefits of longer (low intensity) swimming.

·       Timed swims of 200m and 15 minutes (recording the distance covered) will be introduced to improve accessibility and as a transition to the formal endurance 1000 program.

·       There will be recorded options for those swimmers progressing to 200m.

·       Separate sessions will be organised for longer swims of over 30 minutes.

Research suggests there are significant health benefits associated with longer (low intensity) swimming including:

·       Strengthening and conditioning of the cardio-vascular system including heart, lungs, blood vessels, and capillaries.

·       Reduced artery stiffness and the associated stress transmitted into other organs.

·       Increased blood and oxygen to the brain improving cognitive function, clear thinking and memory reaction times.

·       Importantly, research indicates longer low intensity swims can help you live longer.

Additionally there are mental health benefits associated with the relaxation and enjoyment of longer low intensity swims. Looking forward to seeing you at our information session at 7:15am (prior to training) on Sunday 11 February.
